While Mesa Grill is not technically on my NYC ‘To Do’ list…Restaurant Week sure as hell is! Restaurant Week occurs twice a year in NYC, when 5 star establishments offer a 3 course Prix Fixe menu for about a month. Restaurant Week is taking place from July 16th – August 10th this year. All participating restaurants offer a Lunch Menu fixed at $24.07 and a Dinner Menu at $35.00. SUCH A STEAL. Make sure you take advantage of these deals, and book early. Participating in Restaurant Week is the best way to see the city and try places you normally could not afford.
We chose Mesa Grill for a Friday afternoon lunch. Mesa is owned by Bobby Flay, know for his infamous NYC steakhouse, Bobby Flay Steak. For our appetizer we ate Fresh Tomato Tortilla Soup with Avocado & Queso and Spicy Salmon Tartar with Crisp Hominy Cake, Piquillo Pesto and Cilantro Vinaigrette. For our main course we ate Wild Striped Bass w/ Roasted Corn Sauce, Jalapeno Pesto and Charred Corn-Tomato Salsa. We finished with out desert of Caramel Chocolate Pudding with Malted Whipped Cream and Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta with Summer Berry Salad.
I would say the food was moderate, with poor service. If you are going to go to Mesa, just go to Bobby Flay Steak, which is what he is famous for. I think it may have a more satisfying outcome.
*Mesa Grill only participates in Restaurant Week Mon-Fri*
