My initial attraction to the Museum of Sex was that I walked by it every day on my way to work and wondered “seriously, what is going on inside there?” After completing the full tour, it took some time to process, but I would recommend you give it a try with low expectations.
The first floor chronicles the portrayal of sex as it developed in the media, which is interesting, but very poorly presented and therefore unengaging. The second floor steps it up with an exhibition of how animals do the dirty, and the third floor levels out with presentations of sex & the internet. Some seriously staggering statistics, I would give it a rating of eh.
I would have liked to see how sex existed in cultures through history, and how that has shaped where sex lives in the modern world. I would also be interested in learning how polygamous societies view the act of making love, as well as how different religions present sex.
